CSO reports slight inflation rise in November, with food prices increasing.
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Central Statistical Office (CSO) has reported a slight increase in inflation for November, rising by 0.5% compared to the previous month’s 0.2%. This marks a contrast to the 1.1% recorded in November 2023.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for November was 124.6, reflecting a small increase of 0.2 points from October. The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Index saw a 0.5% rise, driven by higher prices for items like tomatoes, fresh carite, and chicken. However, price drops for cucumber, carrots, and bananas helped balance the overall increase. Other categories, such as clothing, footwear, and health, also saw minor changes, while prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco fell by 0.2%. The report highlights moderate inflation, signaling economic stability but also indicating rising costs in essential goods.
