Techniques in forage/ silage production

Farmers benefit from small ruminant development training on forage, silage production, and storage to promote sustainable farming in region.

Scarborough, Tobago – Farmers in Tobago benefited this week from a training session organized by the Small Ruminant Development Project’s Steering Committee. The initiative, which falls under the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development, was led by Mr. Keith George and focused on “Techniques in Forage/Silage Production and Storage.”

According to a release from the Division, the session covered essential topics such as pasture establishment, forage management, and innovative feeding systems. Attendees gained practical knowledge on how to prepare for the dry season, manage legume and forage banks, and preserve forage through techniques like baling and silage production. This training is part of ongoing efforts to support local small ruminant farmers and strengthen the small ruminant industry, ensuring a more sustainable and resilient farming sector in Tobago.
