October 29, 2024 – Calypso Rose, the legendary calypsonian and advocate, shared insights into her career and experiences during an intimate conversation at the Hochoy Charles Administrative Complex. The event was a celebration of the “Queen of Calypso,” who was visiting Tobago for the carnival festivities and other honors.
During her time on the island, Calypso Rose also made an undisclosed financial donation to the Tobago Regional Health Authority’s Dialysis Unit, having expressed a desire to give back to her home island as a kidney patient herself. Additionally, a section of Milford Road was renamed “Calypso Rose Boulevard” in her honor.
This conversation provided an opportunity for the public to hear firsthand about her life, struggles as a woman in a male-dominated art form, her international career, and her views on Tobago’s carnival. She also expressed her excitement for the island’s carnival and spoke about her desire to see more done to develop the country’s artistic talent.
