Preliminary work on the dragon gas project has begun.
On October 11, 2024, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, along with Energy Minister Stuart Young and officials from Shell and the National Gas Company, visited the Dona Jose 2 vessel at Tembladora Port, Chaguaramas, to mark the start of preliminary work on the Dragon Gas Project. The vessel, chartered by Venezuelan firm Geohidra and contracted by Shell, will conduct geophysical and geotechnical surveys from the Dragon Field in Venezuela to the Hibiscus Platform off Trinidad’s North Coast. These surveys will provide crucial data for the design of a 22 km subsea pipeline connecting the Dragon Field to Trinidad, pending a final investment decision. The Dragon Gas Project, which aims to export gas from Venezuela to Trinidad, is a key collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Shell, and various service providers. Prime Minister Rowley emphasized the need for clean, safe, and profitable operations, while Minister Young highlighted the project’s importance for funding critical national services such as hospitals, schools, and utilities.
