Scarborough, Tobago – The United Nations has designated September 27th as World Tourism Day. In recognition of this, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation Tashia Burris emphasized the theme, “Tourism and Peace,” highlighting the power of tourism to unite and uplift communities.
She noted that Tobago’s natural beauty, culture, and hospitality are key to creating a peaceful environment for visitors, which in turn fosters connections and healing. The Secretary underscored Tobago’s resilience and warmth as crucial strengths that showcase the island’s true essence. She also called for greater collaboration within the community and with international partners to ensure Tobago remains a symbol of peace and a desirable destination for travelers worldwide. The message reflects the island’s commitment to promoting peace through tourism.
At the time of this message, Burris was in the Bahamas, leading a delegation on a tourism study tour in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank, demonstrating an active pursuit of new strategies for Tobago’s tourism sector.
