Tourism secretary Tashia Burris highlights theme “Tourism and peace” on world tourism day and calls for community unity & international collaboration.
The United Nations has designated September 27th as World Tourism Day. In recognition of this, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation Tashia Burris emphasized the theme, “Tourism and Peace,” highlighting the power of tourism to unite and uplift communities. She stated that the island’s natural beauty, culture, and hospitality create a peaceful visitor environment, fostering connections and healing. Tobago’s resilience and warmth were underscored as key strengths, helping to showcase the island’s true essence. The Secretary called for collaboration within the community and with international partners to ensure Tobago remains a symbol of peace and a desirable destination for travelers worldwide. The message reflects the island’s commitment to promoting peace through tourism. Burris is currently in the Bahamas, leading a delegation on a tourism study tour in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank.
