Akeem Stewart Welcomed Home

Paralympic silver-medallist Akeem Stewart welcomed home.

Scarborough, Tobago – The Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport extended a warm welcome home to silver-medallist Paralympian Athlete Akeem Stewart at the ANR Robinson International Airport following the Paris Paralympic Games.

Akeem Stewart won the silver medal in the men’s discus throw with a throw of 56.66m. Welcoming him home were Secretary and Assistant Secretary for the Division of Community Development, Joel Sampson and Wane Clarke, respectively, as well as Assistant Secretary for the Division of Tourism, Niall George. Stewart was also presented with a $100,000 cheque from the Division of Community Development. Accompanying him were his coach, Wade Franklyn, Technical Sport Director Sean Aberdeen, Planning and Development Officer Ricia Ali-Lindow, his family, and many others. The special welcome included a performance by an ensemble of community-based cultural practitioners from the Division of Tourism, who performed Tobagonian, Afro-Caribbean, Calypso, and Folk pieces to celebrate his return.
