Marine first responders want payment

Fishermen and marine stakeholders call for payment from assisting with oil spill response efforts.

Scarborough, Tobago – Stakeholders in Tobago’s marine industry are calling for immediate payment after rendering vital services for the oil spill response efforts. Fishermen and members of the diving industry held a joint press conference in Scarborough today, expressing their frustration.

They stated that, despite suffering damages to vessels and equipment during the response efforts six months ago, they have yet to receive any payments. This outstanding compensation issue affects those who were on the frontline mitigating the impact of the oil spill on Tobago’s coastline and marine environment.
