Bail Amendment Bill Passed: Murder Accused Can Now Apply for Bail
The Bail Amendment Bill passed in parliament.
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Reginald Amour presented the Bail Amendment Bill, which was passed during yesterday’s session of the House of Representatives.
This crucial bill has been a topic of parliamentary discussion for some time, rising out of the landmark Akili Charles case, in which Charles was in remand for nine years before being freed from prison. Attorney General Amour explained that the bill will now allow those accused of murder to apply for bail, marking a significant change in the nation’s legal framework.
