Scarborough, Tobago – June 20, 2024 – For this year’s Tobago Heritage Festival, many things have been changed. Groups participating in the festival now have to take charge of logistics and infrastructure for their events, operating with a $200,000 sponsorship from the Tobago Festivals Commission.
Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus, the political leader of the Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) and former secretary for the Division of Community Development and Culture, commented on these changes during our Tobago Updates’ Good Morning Tobago show. She stated that there must be starting finances for groups to effectively get their preparations underway for the Heritage Festival, underscoring concerns about the new funding model and its impact on cultural groups in Tobago.
