11,000 Barrels to Go: Minister Stuart Young Updates Senate on Gulfstream Oil Extraction and Investigation

The Minister of Energy says approximately 11,000 more barrels of oil are to be extracted from the Gulfstream Barge.

Tobago – June 14, 2024 – During yesterday’s (June 13, 2024) Senate sitting, the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young provided updated information regarding the ongoing efforts to track the owners of the Gulfstream vessel and the whereabouts of the Solo Creed Tug.

Independent Senator Paul Richards inquired about the progress of extracting the remaining oil from the Gulfstream vessel and the broader environmental impacts of the oil spill. Minister Young’s update indicates that approximately 11,000 barrels of fuel are still onboard the vessel, highlighting the scale of the ongoing recovery operation. The discussions in the Senate underscore the continued focus on managing the environmental aftermath and ensuring accountability for the Tobago oil spill.
