$50 Million for Oil Spill Relief “Makes Sense,” Says Senator Laurence Hislop

Senator Laurence Hislop defends the government’s decision to grant T.H.A. $50 Million for oil spill clean-up.

Scarborough, Tobago – June 12, 2024 – According to government Senator Laurence Hislop, the $50 million allocated for oil spill relief to the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) might not seem like a large sum, but he asserts that it “makes sense to clear some of the bills that stood up to scrutiny.”

Speaking on the matter, Senator Hislop defended the Minister of Finance’s decision to grant the THA only $50 million, despite the original request of $153 million. He assured that more funding would be made available in due time. His comments aim to clarify the government’s financial strategy for the Tobago oil spill cleanup and address concerns regarding the adequacy of the initial allocation.
