October 15, 2025- A new chapter is beginning for the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA), as Crystal Bevin Ashe has been elected President, marking a decisive shift in the union’s leadership.
Ashe’s victory over outgoing president Martin Lum Kim reflects growing calls within the teaching community for renewed advocacy, transparency, and stronger representation. Many educators expressed frustration over previous wage negotiations and are now looking to Ashe’s leadership to restore confidence and chart a more assertive course for the union.
The election results, described by members as a clear mandate for change, come at a time when teachers across the nation are pressing for improved working conditions, fair compensation, and a more active voice in national education policy.
