T&T Hockey Board’s Pan Am Cup Withdrawal Blamed on Financial Non-Compliance
July 25, 2025 – The Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board’s (TTHB) withdrawal from the Pan American Cup in Uruguay was due to its failure to submit audited financial statements and adhere to funding policies, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs clarified today.
The Ministry expressed deep disappointment, revealing that Sport TT identified multiple breaches, including delayed funding requests and outstanding reimbursements totaling over $88,000. Despite SportTT’s willingness to collaborate, the TTHB withdrew from the tournament without providing notice. Minister Phillip Watts emphasized that athletes are the ones who ultimately pay the price for such financial and compliance failures, highlighting the negative impact on their opportunities to represent the country.
