Quantities of Marijuana and Ammunition Seized in Ongoing Anti-Crime Exercises

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – January 12th, 2024 – Ongoing anti-crime exercises conducted across the country yesterday resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of marijuana and ammunition, along with a firearm.

In the Tobago Division, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, acting on intelligence, executed a search warrant at a house in the Scarborough district around 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 11th, 2024. The search led to officers discovering 12 packets containing a total of 5.9 kilogrammes of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $472,000. Two suspects, a man and a woman, who were present in the house at the time, were arrested in connection with the find.

Meanwhile, in the Central Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise between 2 PM and 6 PM yesterday. During this operation, they proceeded to the fish market in the Claxton Bay district, where a search, aided by the Canine Branch, resulted in the discovery of 30 rounds of 5.56 ammunition. The same party of officers then moved to the Chaguanas district, uncovering 465 grammes of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $7,500. Additionally, three male suspects, aged 18 to 21, from Cunupia and Port of Spain, were arrested in connection with robbery inquiries in the Cunupia district.

Further, Task Force officers found and seized one firearm in the Longdenville district during an anti-crime exercise conducted between 11 AM and 3 PM yesterday. Acting on information, officers proceeded to Ravine Sable Road, where a search led to the discovery of the illegal weapon, wrapped in a black plastic bag.

Investigations are ongoing into all of these matters as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continues its efforts to combat crime nationwide.
