Assistant Secretary for Tourism, Niall George says 2 million dollars has been allocated for Tobago carnival stakeholders.
Scarborough, Tobago – October 1, 2024 – The private sector expressed disappointment over the lack of specific allocations in the national budget for the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) to address outstanding debts owed to contractors. Curtis Williams, Chairman of the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, stated that the longer contractors remain unpaid, the harder it is for them to sustain their businesses. He also raised concerns about the government’s decision to increase the public sector minimum wage.
Williams’s comments highlight the urgent need for the THA to settle its debts to ensure the viability of local businesses and support the island’s economic stability. The chairman’s remarks underscore the critical link between government payments and the health of the private sector in Tobago.
