July 18, 2025 – A coordinated criminal network operating from within Trinidad and Tobago’s prisons has prompted Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro to recommend a State of Emergency (SOE) for the country.
Intelligence confirms that inmates are actively using smuggled phones to direct violent attacks targeting senior police officers, judiciary members, staff from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office, and prison officers.
While no curfew is currently planned, a specialized Threat Response Group has been activated to manage the immediate threat. Authorities have begun the process of relocating key inmates and are executing targeted operations to dismantle this network. Government leaders were briefed on July 17th, 2025, as containment efforts intensified to address this serious national security concern.
