August 26. 2025 – Trinidad and Tobago authorities have deported two U.S. fugitives, Tevin Williams and Zakiya Williams, who were wanted on federal drug trafficking charges and for evading court appearances in the United States.
The suspects, charged in California and New York in 2023, fled after being granted pre-trial release. They were apprehended in La Romaine on August 19, 2025, in a joint operation between the Transnational Organised Crime Unit and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Vetted Unit. The Ministry of National Security issued a deportation order on August 21.
On August 22, Williams and Williams were escorted back to the United States in a coordinated effort by Trinidadian and American law enforcement officials. Authorities described this dual deportation as unprecedented in the region, crediting the strong law enforcement partnership between the two countries.
U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Charlie Franta lauded the collaboration, highlighting it as a clear example of what can be achieved through joint efforts in fighting transnational crime.
