Scarborough, Tobago – 09 Jan 2025 – Tobago’s economy relies heavily on its tourism sector. However, according to Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, following the declaration of the State of Emergency (SoE) on December 30th, 2024, many visitors who had planned to travel to the island have canceled their reservations.
Despite this, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, Councillor Tashia Burris, reassured the public that Tobago remains a safe destination for tourists. She gave this assurance at a Tobago Security Council Stakeholder meeting, where various stakeholders gathered to discuss their concerns about the impact of the SoE on the tourism industry.
