Strategic Talks Signal New Push to Revitalize Tobago’s Tourism

August 15, 2025 – In a significant step towards rejuvenating Tobago’s tourism industry, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation, Tashia Burris, met with Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Satyakama Maharaj, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The high-level meeting focused on developing strategic initiatives to enhance the island’s tourism offerings.

Minister Maharaj, demonstrating a strong commitment to the collaboration, was accompanied by a specially selected team of officials. The delegation included Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Colin Neil Gosine, Advisor Keran Manohar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag) Ms. Ava Mahabir-Dass, Director of Investments Mr. Irfan Hosein, and acting CEO of Tourism Trinidad Limited, Mr. Ian Downes. The Minister noted the team was assembled to specifically address Tobago’s unique needs.

Discussions centered on several critical areas for growth, including proposals to increase both domestic and international airlift to the island. The officials also tackled the Land License issue, reviewed potential incentives to attract investment in the tourism sector, and discussed the importance of restarting the Standing Committee on Tourism to ensure sustained progress.

Minister Maharaj welcomed the proposals put forth by the Tobago delegation and pledged his full support for the initiatives. He further committed to a personal visit to Tobago to oversee the implementation of the discussed strategies.

The meeting concluded with both leaders affirming their shared vision for elevating Tobago’s tourism sector, heralding a new era of focused growth and opportunity for the island.
