Ruling on Erla Harewood-Christopher’s Suspension Set for April 15

March 7, 2025 – Suspended Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher will have to wait until April 15th to learn the outcome of her lawsuit against the Police Service Commission (PSC). Harewood-Christopher is challenging the PSC’s authority to suspend her amid an ongoing investigation into the procurement of sniper rifles for the Strategic Services Agency (SSA). Justice Christopher Sieuchand is set to deliver his ruling after setting deadlines for written submissions on March 6th. Originally slated for May, the verdict date was moved up following a request from Harewood-Christopher’s lawyer, Pamela Elder, SC, due to the impending end of her contract. The controversy began on January 30th, when Harewood-Christopher was detained for questioning over the granting of Firearm User’s Licenses to former SSA head Roger Best. Following the questioning, she was suspended from duty on January 31st. Despite being issued a pre-action letter, the PSC has not rescinded its decision.
