Prime Minister Stuart Young Announces International Observers for General Elections

March 21, 2025 – Prime Minister Stuart Young has addressed recent allegations of conflict of interest raised by the Opposition regarding the appointment of Elizabeth Solomon, wife of former Attorney General Reginald Armour, as CARICOM’s Assistant Secretary ahead of this year’s General Election. Speaking on the matter at the Post-Cabinet Briefing yesterday, Young stated that such concerns were anticipated but did not elaborate further. However, he went on to announce that CARICOM election observers will be present for this year’s General Election, ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process. He also revealed that he has officially written to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth to request the assistance of international observers for the Election. He further stated that there is nothing to hide and reiterated that Trinidad and Tobago has always conducted free and fair elections. Additionally, he announced that he has extended an invitation to the Carter Center to send representatives to observe the upcoming election. The Carter Center has helped many countries resolve conflicts and advance democracy and human rights; among other things.
