Pension bill to be withdrawn

Attorney General Reginald Armour has announced his decision to withdraw the Miscellaneous Provisions (Senior Citizens’ Pension and Public Assistance) Bill, 2024.  The bill, which sparked controversy, proposed disqualifying individuals with bank savings exceeding $25,000 from receiving the old age pension.  During a recent media conference, AG Armour clarified that the inclusion of savings as a condition was never intended to be part of the legislation.
