Barge Refloated and Towed to Barbados Bay Jetty After Snapped Towline Incident
Sand barge will soon resume operations after being wrecked
Studley Park, Tobago – February 26, 2024 – On February 8th, a barge carrying sand and construction supplies destined for Warner’s Concrete Batching Plant in Studley Park, Tobago, experienced a significant incident. The rope pulling the barge into Barbados Bay Jetty by a tugboat snapped, causing the vessel to be tossed by waves and become stuck on a rock. Strong currents and waves led to the separation of the barge from the tugboat.
While some sand spilled into the water, most of the material remained on board. By February 24th, the barge was successfully refloated and towed to Barbados Bay Jetty. Ongoing efforts are focused on ensuring the barge’s safety and integrity for prompt resumption of its operations, minimizing disruption to construction supplies in Tobago.
