Major Joint Operation Thwarts Drone Smuggling Attempt Around Maximum Security Prison
September 30, 2025- Amid the ongoing state of emergency, a coordinated operation successfully stopped a sophisticated drone smuggling attempt at Arouca Maximum Security Prison. Three suspects were arrested just 50 meters from the prison wall. Authorities seized a significant cache of narcotics, cigarettes, and cell phones, while concurrent searches inside the facility uncovered additional contraband.
The operation highlights the growing use of technology, including drones, by criminal networks to bypass traditional security measures. Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro praised the multi-agency response, calling it a “tangible representation of the strength and resolve” of the nation’s security forces.
