Soca artiste goes on hunger strike over Vybz Kartel’s promised Carnival performance.
The 2025 National Carnival was recently launched, and for many, it was an opportunity to get a taste of what’s to come in 2025. However, there are growing concerns about Jamaican Dancehall music’s increasing influence on Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival celebration, with some fearing it may undermine the event’s uniqueness. It was recently announced that Vybz Kartel, who was recently released from prison, would perform in Trinidad on Fantastic Friday. This has caused a strong reaction from soca artist “Yankey Boy” (formerly Kevon Health), who voiced his disapproval of Kartel’s scheduled performance on Carnival Friday.
