Finance Minister Imbert hails local institutions for promoting good governance at dialogue on Latin American & Caribbean development
Finance Minister Colm Imbert highlighted the importance of local institutions and legislation in promoting good governance during a two-day dialogue on governance in Latin America and the Caribbean at the Hyatt Regency on August 14th. Imbert highlighted the role of the Public Procurement Act, the TT Revenue Authority, and the Gambling and Gaming Commission in ensuring transparency and accountability. He noted that these mechanisms, alongside an independent judiciary, free press, and robust parliamentary oversight, provide strong institutional checks and balances in Trinidad and Tobago. Imbert also underscored the significance of the Gambling and Gaming Commission, which is expected to be fully operational by December, as a commitment to regulating the gambling sector and enhancing governance. The event focused on improving public institutions, security, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through better governance.
