September 18, 2025- September 18, 2025- Assemblyman Zorisha Hackett has been temporarily assigned responsibility for the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, just weeks ahead of the Tobago October Carnival 2025.
The reassignment, announced without explanation by the Office of the Chief Secretary, notably sidelines Assistant Secretary Niall George, who was not given the opportunity to deputise in the absence of Tashia Burris.
Hackett, currently serving as Secretary of Education, Research, and Technology, will now manage both portfolios. Despite the unexpected change, Carnival stakeholders have expressed support. The Tobago Promoters Association and the Tobago October Carnival Association welcomed Hackett’s appointment, signalling confidence in her leadership during this critical period.
With preparations for Carnival in full swing, the timing of the reassignment—and the lack of clarity surrounding it—has attracted significant attention.
