Fire on board Cabo Star

Cabo Star experiences fire on board cancelling sailings.

The Cabo Star experienced a fire on board, leading to the cancellation of all future sailings. According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transport Service, “the incident” occurred this morning. They offered no details regarding the nature of the incident. However, images of smoke emitting from the vessel docked in Port of Spain, Trinidad, circulated on social media. The T&T Inter-Island Transport Service indicated that the incident is under investigation and that the public would be updated accordingly. Until then, all sailings are canceled. This situation mirrors a fire that occurred in the engine room on August 24th, 2023, as the vessel was approaching Scarborough. The fire was quickly extinguished, but truckers were stranded on board for hours before the vessel was towed to shore. Meanwhile, the fire resulted in the vessel being out of commission for a month, leading to food shortages in Tobago.
