Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – In a vibrant display of female football, the CFU, in partnership with FIFA and the Trinidad and Tobago Football Festival, showcased its commitment to the sport at Hasely Crawford Stadium. The event saw 65 girls, aged 2 to 14, embark on their football journeys with the tagline, “The Future Starts Now!”
A team of nine coaches led the young participants through five skills stations and mini matches. Providing mentorship and inspiration were several football icons, including FIFA Legend Tashana Vincent, Tobagonians Kenya Yaya Cordner and Kimika Forbes, and Victoria Swift. These outstanding footballers not only worked with the coaches but also shared invaluable experiences during a “Lunch with the Legends” session, answering questions from the girls on a range of issues from impostor syndrome to managing defeat.
All participants were celebrated with medals and other football paraphernalia, while eight exceptional individuals received certificates for their outstanding efforts. The festival served as a pivotal first step for many, with the TTFA planning to build on the event’s momentum with its “Girl Play” programme.
