Scarborough, Tobago – July 18, 2025 – In just eight months, Trinidad and Tobago has entered another State of Emergency (SOE), with the government citing increased gang activity and serious threats to senior officials and national institutions. In a live video response, Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Farley Augustine expressed concern over the country facing yet another SOE within such a short span.
He reaffirmed his stance, stating it remains unchanged from when the previous government implemented a similar measure on December 30th, 2024. Augustine’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges in national security and the repeated use of extraordinary measures to combat crime in Trinidad and Tobago.
