Extracting Oil from Gulfstream Wreck: Over 20,000 Barrels of Fuel Remain
Preparations on the way to begin extracting remaining bunker fuel from “Gulfstream” vessel on Sunday.
Scarborough, Tobago – April 12, 2024 – Extraction of the remaining bunker fuel onboard the shipwrecked “Gulfstream” vessel is expected to occur on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Allan Stewart, Director of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), estimates that over 20,000 barrels of bunker fuel are still onboard the vessel.
Preparations are actively being made to facilitate this complex extraction process, which is crucial for mitigating further environmental damage from the Tobago oil spill. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to remove remaining hydrocarbons and secure the wreck site near Cove Estate.
