Dutch Military assists with oil-spill clean-up in Bonaire

Kralendijk, Bonaire – The Dutch Armed Forces launched an environmental rescue mission to clean up oil spill debris on Bonaire’s beaches, stemming from the Gulfstream wreck in Tobago. This intervention came following Trinidad and Tobago’s national emergency declaration due to the significant oil spill that originated on February 7th.

The Dutch military’s crucial assistance led to the successful reopening of multiple Bonaire beaches, a vital step for the island’s tourism sector. Cleanup efforts meticulously focused on removing oil from Bonaire’s shores, emphasizing its importance for both the local economy and the marine environment. Despite the success of this mission, officials remain vigilant about potential future impacts of the spill. Bonaire authorities are also actively contemplating legal action against the responsible party behind the Gulfstream barge for the environmental damage incurred.
