Denyse Plummer Loses Battle With Cancer

Denyse Plummer is renowned for her musical journey that commenced during her childhood, winning the Best Vocalist title in both Junior and Senior categories at T&T Music Festivals. Her initial rise to fame, however, occurred as a pop singer performing at local bars and hotels, ultimately securing a steady engagement at the Chaconia Inn in Maraval, according to the general secretary of TUCO Shirlane Hendrickson.

Plummer clinched the Calypso Queen title six times and secured second place three times. Her pinnacle year in Calypso was 2001 when she seized the National Calypso Monarch title with “Heroes” and “Nah Leaving.” She stood as one of the five female calypsonians who achieved Young Kings and National Calypso Queen’s honours. In 2011, Plummer was honoured with the Hummingbird Gold Medal in recognition of her significant contributions to culture.

In 2015, Plummer underwent another transformative change by embracing Christianity, becoming a born-again Christian. She joined the World Outreach Ministries Church in Petit Valley, led by Pastor Carl Mead. Plummer remained an active presence in the gospel circuit until her health challenges compelled her to halt her performances.
