The Tobago Bandleaders Association Is Not Pleased With The Budget For Staging Of National Carnival

Scarborough, TobagoTobago bandleaders recently convened an emergency meeting to determine a way forward after receiving the budget for the National Carnival 2024. Reports indicate a significant reduction from the 2023 allocation, with prize monies and grants being drastically slashed. Adding to the dismay, some traditional categories of mas and J’ouvert will receive no prize money at all.

The dissatisfied bandleaders appeared on the Good Morning Tobago Show with Kandace Jackson to publicly express their concerns. They highlighted the profound impact these Carnival budget cuts will have on their ability to produce quality presentations and on the participants’ motivation.

This unexpected reduction in funding has sparked widespread concern within Tobago’s Carnival community, underscoring the financial challenges facing the island’s premier cultural festival for the 2024 season.
