Calypso Rose Returns to Tobago, Greeted with Welcome Party

Calypso Rose arrives in Tobago in time for the October carnival festivities.

October 24, 2024 – Linda Mc Cartha Monica Sandy-Lewis, affectionately known as Calypso Rose, arrived in Tobago today, surrounded by loved ones, friends, family, and well-wishers. A welcome party was arranged by the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, where she was greeted with smiles and tokens of appreciation. The Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Administrator of Tourism were all in attendance.

Calypso Rose, who was visibly in good spirits, expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome. Born in Tobago, the celebrated icon has composed over a thousand songs and recorded more than twenty albums throughout her career. She was also the first woman to win the Road March competition with her song “Gimme More Tempo.” A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she also advocates for social change. Tomorrow, she is scheduled to be honored in a street naming ceremony in Tobago.
