Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley Announces S He Will Not Be Seeking Re-election

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has announced that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming general elections. He made this announcement two hours ago after a press conference at the Central Administrative Services Tobago Office in Orange Hill. Dr. Rowley is in Tobago and will be hosting a retreat for the cabinet on Sunday and Monday. The announcement comes as the PNM prepares to screen candidates for the Tobago East and West seats. Dr. Rowley stated that while he will remain the PNM’s political leader and oversee preparations for the general elections, he plans to step down at a yet-to-be-determined date. Reflecting on his 45 years in public service, Dr. Rowley recounted starting as a grass planter at Hope Farm before rising through the ranks to enter politics. He expressed concern over the degeneration of societal values, particularly the declining respect for public officials. He also hinted that ongoing criticism has taken a personal toll on both him and his family. After making the announcement, Dr. Rowley expressed confidence in the next generation, stating his belief in a cadre of young people ready to lead the nation forward. Speaking in a somber tone, he thanked the country for their support throughout his career and dropped hints about the potential timing of the upcoming general election. After which Dr. Rowley ended the press conference without taking questions from the media relating to his intended resignation.
