Sandals Resort International under fire

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister calls on Sandals Resort international to pay up taxes owed or vacate the country.

St. John’s, Antigua – Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, has called on Sandals Resorts International to pay up taxes owed or consider removing its property from the country.

Browne stated that while the country is attracting a significant amount of luxury properties, which should ideally yield higher taxes for the country and better salaries for workers, this has not been the case with the Sandals Resort. The Prime Minister’s comments highlight a debate over tax incentives and the economic benefits that major international brands bring to Caribbean nations.
