Secretary Trevor James speaks about CEC for Friendship Connector Road
Scarborough, Tobago – February 26, 2024 – During the recent plenary session last Thursday (February 22, 2024), Minority Leader Kelvon Morris raised queries to Secretary Trevor James regarding the Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) for the Friendship Connector Road under the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries, and Urban Development.
Secretary James disclosed that following the suspension of work on the Friendship Connector Road last year, the Division submitted an application for a CEC on June 6, 2023. Subsequently, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) conducted an inspection at the site on June 26, 2023. James further mentioned that on December 12, 2023, all involved parties mutually agreed to terminate the proceedings related to the CEC.
As of this report, the road construction stands at 75% completion, with the entire project scheduled for finalization in March 2024. This update provides clarity on the administrative and environmental approvals for the critical infrastructure project in Tobago.
