Minister Ayana Webster- Roy and MP for Tobago East speaking at a joint press conference last evening at the Central Administrative building in Shaw Park said she stands in solidarity with Tobagonians in condemning the actions of the pilots at Caribbean Airlines. Meanwhile, Minister Shamfa Cudjoe, who is also the MP for Tobago West, emphasised during the joint press conference that despite the demand for a dedicated Tobago airline, past efforts to establish one had not been successful.
Cudjoe emphasised that although the domestic route for inter-island travel might not be profitable, it remains a crucial service. Thus the Government of Trinidad and Tobago sees Caribbean Airlines as a priority matter and continues to provide a measure of subsidy.
She said while observing the Caribbean region, it’s clear that our country is unique in operating an airline with such a significant level of subsidy, unlike any other country in the Caribbean.
