World Food Programme reports That 43% of Caribbean is food insecure.

Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda – A significant portion of the Caribbean faces food insecurity, with 43% of the region’s population affected, according to data from the World Food Programme (WFP). This pressing issue emerged as a critical item on the agenda for the 4th International Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference held in Antigua and Barbuda.

Regis Chapman, WFP Representative and Country Director of the Multi-Country Office for the Caribbean, shed light on these alarming statistics. The discussions at the conference underscored the urgent need for SIDS to implement robust strategies to enhance food systems, improve local production, and build resilience against external shocks to ensure food security for all their citizens.
