Police seize 1.6 million dollars in marijuana found in Crown Point

Police officers seized $1.6 million worth of cannabis late Monday night. The operation, which took place between 9 p.m. and midnight on October 7, 2024, was conducted in the Crown Point district and involved units from the Guard and Emergency Branch, Inter-Agency Task Force, and Canine Unit. Acting on intelligence, officers converged on Pigeon Point Road, where they discovered a suspicious white Nissan Tiida parked in a dimly lit area near the beachfront. A search of the vehicle, aided by the Canine Unit, uncovered a multi-coloured crocus bag containing 48 rectangular packages wrapped in brown plastic and a red bag with seven black rectangular packages. All packages were found to contain cannabis. The seized drugs, weighing a total of 29.7 kg, have an estimated street value of $1.6 million. The packages were confiscated and transported to the Crown Point police station. The successful operation was led by ACP Subero, Snr Supt Elie, Snr Supt Maharaj, and Snr Supt Montrichard, marking another step in the fight against the illicit drug trade on the island.
