Tobago Swimmers Make Waves at National Championships, Bringing Home Medals, Records, and Trophies

A six-member contingent from the Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors made a resounding splash at the ASATT National Short Course Age Group Championships 2025, held from July 9th to 13th in Couva, Trinidad. The team returned to Tobago with an impressive haul of nine medals, one national record, and an overall trophy, showcasing the island’s burgeoning swimming talent.

Leading the charge was national athlete Ornella Walker, who dominated the 18 & Over category. Walker secured the 2nd place overall high-point trophy and clinched four gold medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and 50m freestyle. In a remarkable feat, she shattered her own national 18 & Over record in the 50m freestyle, lowering it to a new record of 28.55 seconds.

Amaya Henry, competing in the 13–14 Girls category, also delivered a stellar performance, earning a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke. Coach-turned-competitor Mosi Denoon, in the 18 & Over category, proved his versatility by securing a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and two bronze medals in the 100m and 50m breaststroke events.

Antonio Jordan (13–14 Boys) and Makayla Ollivierre (15–17 Girls) also demonstrated promising talent, reaching multiple finals and achieving qualifying times in their respective events. Each athlete’s ability to reach the finals underscored the team’s collective strength and determination.

The triumphant team is now setting its sights on their next major challenge: the Tobago YMCA Invitational Swimming Championships, scheduled for August 9th–10th, 2025, at the Tobago YMCA Courland Swimming Facility. The event is expected to draw teams from across the nation, promising another exciting display of aquatic prowess.
